What I do when stressed

Hi there

Sometimes people or situations can get you so frustrated that you feel...yes STRESSED! I know it happens to me every so often.

Now there are different ways the experts say to deal with stress which are very very very good such as yoga, meditation, walks with nature, having fun with friends and much more.... I find it calming when I paint. By no means am I a professional artist, I am just a free spirited enthusiast of art . I dabble in watercolour and acrylic paints and I also design and sell hand made cards.

Today I want to share with you one of the latest paintings that I have done just as a change of pace from the card making.

Please feel free to leave me a comment!

If I had a dog this is what she would look like!

Yes folks I don't have a dog, but if I did... this is what she would look like. This is the loveable Kiki, a beautiful digital stamp from tiddlyinks one of my fav stores to go to for cutesy, whimsy stamps.

I coloured Kiki using copic markers C1, C2, C5, B00 and the colourless blender. I used the stroke technique turning the image several times to get the strokes the way I wanted them. Of course I must add some glitter right ...after all "she is my dog" until I get one....I don't need a fence for her right..

Actually I will get a dog after I fence my yard properly. So here's to Kiki.....

Please leave a comment if you like Kiki. Thanks for reading...see you again.

Pink or Blue whats your preference?

Its a beautiful day here in the Caribbean the sun is definitely shining, birds singing- a lil bit breezy so its cool. Just about 31˚c.

Now about the choice of pink or blue does not refer to babies but actually two cards made using the same die cut but in a different colour. Have you ever had customers saying to you " you know I like this card but (my recipient ) likes.......

Well I sometimes do . So today I did two cards similar design different colours. without further ado, here are my Pink and Blue......

The city scape was cutout using the diecuts from the memory box set 'wide open spaces'. I chose to watercolour them using a mix of kuretake paints wine red, brown, darkbrown, cobalt blue, mid yellow. The text were from Penny Black's 'words of kindness'

With the pink card I have added pics of the various stages for you to see.

So now that you have seen the two cards ...again I ask what's your preference? Pink or Blue..

Thanks for reading and see you next time ...

My apologies

I must apologise for an error I made on my last blog. The puzzles were bought at acherryontop and not scrapbook.com. So any inconvenience caused is regretted. The entry was updated to reflect this.

Some of my fav stores to shop....

Hi there welcome back

I haven't received my card making 'goodies' as yet but I am still super excited for when it arrives. In the meantime I will share with you some of my go to stores for my card making goodies.

Here is my list...

Simon Says Stamps- I like it for its variety, also their own brand of simon says stamps products like their cardstock papers, their inks and some of their stamps.

Scrapbook.com- Another great place for variety of products for my cardmaking. I have been buying there for approximately 6 years- What I like about them is how quickly they ship my products.

A Cherry on Top - Another great store- I was surprised to find they sell puzzles. So I bought a christmas themed puzzle from them one year and I loved it ( One of my family's tradition at christmas was to build a new puzzle starting christmas morning) Unfortunately I havent bought any for a while as I have spent the last 2 christmases in Grenada and one christmas in the US and I like to travel rather light so I didnt buy any to travel with.

Ellen Hutson- They also have a variety but sometimes different products to what I see at other stores

Impression Obsession- As the name implies you can get obsessed with their stamps. I get good clean images everytime I stamp

Joann's - I buy from them when I visit the US as I usually stay in Miami

Michael's- As well is one of my go-to stores in Miami

Blick Art- I also dabble a bit in art as well. Christmas 2016, I spent in Miami and it was the first time I heard about them and I spent an awful lot of money there on art supplies and a crafting table that tilts up 45˚. That helps me when I craft or paint. I am not a professional painter but it soothes my soul!

For digi stamps I love Tiddlyinks, powerpoppy stamps, and gerda steiner. Love love love.

My purchases are not limited to these stores . There are others.... as I am always looking for different products for my stash. If you have a list of stores you purchase from and would like to share with us. Please free to email me so I can add a link to your blog post on your fav stores to shop.

Lets tell stores how much we appreciate what they do for us.... the innovative designs, the products, the free classes, the paid ones as well, the tips, techniques, videos, customer care the groups for inspiration and more.....

Thanks for reading and dont forget to leave me a comment!

Can’t wait for my order to arrive…

YAY!!! Its for me........

My boyfriend says I am like a child on Christmas day when new orders arrive. Which card maker isn’t……When I collect my package I open up right away and go through everything. Poor thing has to listen to me talk about what I am going to do with them when I get home. Nevermind that an hr and a half later I forget half of the ideas I had but he’s a good soul he lets me get it out my system and encourages me to put some of my ideas into effect right away (at least the ones I remember).

My latest order comes from Simon Says Stamp and contains more of the latest distress oxides by Tim Holtz ‘which are neither dyes nor pigment inks but a combination of the two.’ There are several other companies I order from which I will talk about in another post.

Orders normally takes about two to 3 weeks to reach me and I check the internet often looking at what I ordered and thinking about the many ways I can use them. No other online purchase excites me more than crafting products except new clothes…….

People often ask how do I decide what to buy…well it’s a bit of a crazy process which I will also share with you my readers but for now I will say..... see you later…..

Putting a little Spring in my step...

Its spring time!!!! Not where I am, though, as we only celebrate 2 seasons the wet and the dry (currently its the dry season.....) but you must admit that Spring is the season of newness, when flowers shake off the past winter cold and start showcasing their beauty for all to see.

Welcome everyone to my new blog.....I thought I would use spring as the theme to relaunch again....

I make cards as a hobby to keep myself busy while I work on other projects and also to give people a conduit to express their emotions and feelings towards others in a positive and heart warming way. Sometimes the personality of the recipient is embodied in the design of the card in terms of colour, theme and even the message inside.

There are many different techniques and styles of cardmaking in the industry. My preferred style is clean and simple and I do like to see some white negative space in the design which you will see throughout. So here is my first card......!

I just absolutely love the new distress oxides by Tim Holtz. They're very easy to use and the brightness of the ink is just amazing. In this card I used the fossilized amber and wilted violet with just small touches of distress inks - spiced marmalade and ripe persimmon. The stamps I used were from Simon Says Stamps artful flowers and Penny Black's words of kindness. I have had them for a while and its often challenging to find new ways to use them. I wanted to add a little more sweetness to the card so I used the Avery Elle's picket fence dies and did some cutouts.

In terms of the layout of the card, I was following last week's sketch by My Favourite Things. Every week they post new ones and its useful as you develop your craft. Here is last week's sketch. The current sketch's design will be uploaded tomorrow.
