Starry backgrounds using distress inks

Hi there and welcome back to another fun sweet cherry card episode!

When I first started this card, I wasnt sure how it was going to turn out as I was going to take my self out of my comfort zone and use a variety of colours to complete this card. The stampset I used here was the MFT stamp set 'out of this world'.

For the background I used distress inks salty ocean, spiced marmalade, blueprint sketch, tumbled glass, abandoned coral and distress oxides wilted violet and broken china and white pigment ink to smoothen and lighten the background. I then used stencils 'oh my stars' by bobunny and Stampers Anonymous Tim Holtz layering collection of dots to add a kind of other worldly feel to the card.

The space ship was coloured using Copics C5, C1, C2, 0, B14, B00, V20, Y13, Y18 and Fabercastell Purple.

After die cutting the numbers '10, 9, 8' I stamped the stars from the mft stamp set 'out of this world' using distress ink salty ocean and added glitter.

I love how this card turned out and I hope you love it too.

Have a great week and check back soon to see what I am working on....

Faux vintage cards

Hi there and welcome back to sweet cherry cards.

Today I tried my hand in recreating a sort of vintage looking card using a stamp by Art Impressions Inc.

The technique I used is called 'loose painting'. There isnt much control of the brush and the paint is the consistency of milk.

I used Winsor and Newman Cotman Brush No 0 so as not to overpower the image with paint ...remember it is for a card so several parts of the image is very tiny. The paint I used, is the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolour set of 24 with a few extras.

The paint is a mixture of several colours - browns, reds, yellow, orange and some other random mixtures I had on my palette.

I first stamped the image using rangers's distress ink scattered straw which made it easy to blend with the colour palette I had. Then I mixed some of the colours leaving them the consistency of milk. If you notice there are gaps where the paint seemed to miss but this was on purpose. The idea is to just let go and just paint simply without a care in the world and this is very freeing.....

Hope you like today's card and I look forward to seeing you back at

Fab Friday at Tiddlyinks

Hi there and welcome again to Fab Friday at Tiddlyinks where you will get a taste of a whole lot of tiddlyinks fabulousness (if that is a word) from all the tiddlyinks designers. You are at sweet cherry's blog, just one of the many designers on the tiddlyinks design team.

For this week's card I am using the snowy wishes and snowman set at tiddlyinks.

The background was created using the following distress inks scattered straw, vintage photo, spiced marmalade, mustard seed distress inks. I first coloured the edges of the card with the distress inks listed above and then softened the background with the white pigment ink by Avery Elle.

Colouring of the snowman was a lot of fun using CopicsC5,C2,C1,Y19,Y13,E30,E00,E57,YG17,100,0,V20.

The trees were diecut using the tall birch by Memory Box

Hope you like this week's card and please feel free to leave me a comment.

Just another wintery card

Hello... and welcome to another exciting day of cardmaking. Today I am featuring a digital stamp by sassy cheryl designs.

Here is the lovely card. It is a very simple design where I have used the layering technique and I also offset the feature of the card- the stamp.

The stamp was coloured using copics, a zig pen and a fabercastell marker. The zig pen was used to colour the coat on the young boy and the fabercastel was used on the shoes. The rest of the image was coloured using the following copics YG17, Y19, E30, E00, B12, E57.

The patterned papers were from Amy Tangerine 'Finders Keepers' and doodle bug designs 'Fun in the Sun'

The die cut stars are from the set by lawn fawn scalloped edge pop up.

Hope you like today's card and join me again here on sweet cherry cards.

Simple backgrounds that glow....

Hi there and welcome back to sweet cherry's blog. You know how we often see some wintery scenes with lovely light shining in the sky from the sun that is behind the winter clouds. The sky looks as if its positively glowing...

So today I decided to try that by using an illuminating technique. It can be used for night and day time winter themed cards.

Here is the card for today and I will discuss the technique below...

For the background, I started off distressing the edges using Ranger's mowed lawn which is a fresh green colour. Once I was finished applying the inks, I rubbed white pigment ink from Avery Elle all over the background to give it a smooth, illumined look...almost like the background is glowing. Once the pigment ink was dried , I stamped the trees by Deep Red using Ranger's peeled paint.

I then added the fox and sled from Hero Arts and coloured them with copic markers E30, V20,E57,R46.

The message 'warm wishes' is from the set Holly Jolly by Art Impressions. I also dotted the sky with a dash of snow as if the snow was just beginning to fall.

Hope you like today's card and if you want to learn more about the technique drop me a comment!

Same background two themes using mft stamps

Hi there everyone! I'm back with two gorgeous cards using the same background for two different themes

The two themes I am using today are Thoughtful Sentiments and Christmas respectively.

With the top card I used mft clear stamps 'A phone call away' and coordinating die set on the glittery stencilled background with the thoughtful sentiments. The card below I added the dog (Art impressions 'christmas wonder' set) with the christmas sweater and the stars to change it up a bit for the christmas theme.

I fussy cut out the dog but the girl was cut with the coordinating die from mft stamps.

The images were coloured using copic markers- E00, B00, 0, R02, B04, R43, C-5, C-1, V20, E57, E30, Y19, R29

I used nuvo glimmer paste blue topaz with the Kaisercraft stencil 'Geo Quarters'

The sentiments are from mft stamps 'a phone call away' and inkyantics 'christmas kitties and pups'. The stars are from lawn fawn scalloped box card.

Last but not least, the patterned paper is from doodlebug designs 'fun in the sun'

Tomorrow I will be adding some glitter and other things to the card to really amp up the christmas vibe. Check back tomorrow for the enhanced new look.

Thanks for stopping by and don't forget to leave me a comment!
