No line colouring on Independence Day!

Its a Happy Independence Day in Trinidad and Tobago.

I decided to be a little different for Independence day (31st August) after all it was a day of change for the citizenry of Trinidad and Tobago. I did some no line colouring with three beach babes who proudly wear the three national colours of Red, White and Black- the sun, the water and the strength and vitality of the people, respectively.

The first thing I did with the image is to stamp it a very light colour- Wendy Vecchi Ranger Tree Branch. Its like a tan colour so it allows me to hide the outlines so it looks like there are no outlines.

Then I coloured in the image with copics and blicks markers

Hat- R35, R27, R43
Bathing suits- R35, R27, 43, C01, C02, DARK UMBER, BLACK, WARM BLACK
Chairs- E18, E15,E13, CO1,CO2,CO5
Hair- CO1,CO2,CO5
Drink- BOO,R27, R43

For the background

I first did a set of squiggly lines in pencil to represent the waves. I started with the first wave which I added a lot of greens and a little black to emphasize the crest of the waves- G21, G00, B12, B02, B14, BLACK. After that I gradually used blues from dark to light to show the waves stretch back towards the horizon. I then coloured the skies in light blues starting with the B000, I made different shapes to show bits of blue sky peaking through . I added some B00 to give the sky some depth and then blended it with some more B000.The sand was done from dark to light brown E13, E11,E00

Just showing the first background I did as a practice.

I am so proud to belong to such a beautiful island of very friendly people. Here's wishing my people a very Happy and Wonderful 56th Independence Day.

Is it worth trying different papers when using markers or pencils?

Hi there and welcome to another episode at Sweet Cherry Cards.

Today I am sharing with you my experience, using different paper with my markers and pencils. I guess I've been too lazy to try it out before, (also I get my products from abroad and have to wait at least two weeks for them to arrive so I try to stretch them as much as I can) but I decided to try them now with my Kit and Clowder class on colouring Dog breeds.

I bought canson marker pad and Strathmore coloured pencil pads last year in Miami. I ve used them but not really for what they were intended. I continued to use ordinary cardstock, yet I kept wondering why my colouring was not coming out the way I expected. For instance, the marker blending was not smooth and the colour pencil blending was challenging.

So I decided to do things differently for class and try using the papers as they were meant to be used. Here is my colour pencil attempt at colouring the maltese dog breed.

I found it was easier to do the strokes on the Strathmore Color Pencil paper which resulted in lots of texture to my colouring, and a smooth blend of colours.

This one is in markers

I found it easier to make my colours blend on the canson marker pad. Even though it is thin there was no bleed through, but I still found that I couldnt do too much blending as the colours would separate after awhile so I have some more work to do this and it is not the best for diecutting.

Now to answer the question ...Yes... it is worth it. If youre like me still on the journey of discovery in card making, is definitely worth trying out different papers as you want your craftmanship to look perfect (with very few human errors).

So try this out! Tell me what you've discovered.

Christmas goodie bag and tag

Hello there and welcome back to another exciting episode at Sweet Cherry Cards.

This is my first post with the Merry Little Christmas design blog and I must say I cant wait to tell you about it! I love christmas...its the favourite time of year for me. The carols, the decorations, the festivities , the feeling.... and thats why this group is a natural fit for me.

Now today's creation is a gift bag, I made using stickers , cardstock and paper. I have been meaning to make gift bags for a while but havent had the time to do so and this is my first.

The paper I used to make the bag is from MAMBI (Me and my big ideas). This paper is great for papercrafting, gift wrapping my gift bag.

Using the We R memory keepers gift bag punch board, I scored the gift bag using the large measurement. and added brown cardstock for the handle.

The tag was cut out of card stock , I had in my stash as well as some stickers I bought last year during my trip to Florida.

Hope you enjoyed today's creation and I look forward to having you back here again!
